Well here we go?we?re launching the new and improved quadmagazine.com! Two years ago I didn?t even own a computer and now I?m sitting on my couch typing my first ever blog post for our new site.
To give you all a little background about myself?I really had no magazine history prior to my past two years at Quad Magazine. I grew up in California racing ATV motocross in the late 90?s. The scene was absolutely dead with so little competition that I easily moved to the Pro class after just two years. In 2000 I worked for Denton Racing and raced the Open Pro-Am and Open A class at the GNC Nationals. What an eye opener! After racing in SoCal and basically being a sideshow with 8-10 total quads at a motorcycle race in CA, well, it was a little different than racing at an ATV event with 350 quads in one weekend… After a pretty successful year and an empty bank account I decided that I would give desert racing a try.
Seven years later I finally turned my racing career into something I really enjoy. I wrote a freelance article for Quad Magazine and started working towards a full time position. At the time I was without a real job and I didn?t have health insurance?I was also racing the BITD (Best In The Desert) series with Greg Stuart for the ?06 season. I had scored a ride with full backing, was racing with someone who I had looked up to, and who?s career I had followed in all the magazines in years past. Greg and I were on the podium the first two races then DNF?d Vegas to Reno.
After that race, we headed out to race the Vegas 300. While running in second overall (and pressuring for the lead), I crashed, breaking my nose, sinuses, and my arm. While driving to the hospital I phoned my now boss Doogie and explained that I really thought it would be a good time to bring me on fulltime…and with insurance. Thankfully everything worked out and I started right away!
What could be better than riding and testing ATVs for a living. My duties here at Quad Magazine have grown quickly as I am learning to write better (as well as improve my nonexistent computer skills). As an Associate Editor I test products and new machines, come up with and write the Tips and Tricks and How-To sections, as well as write the Mod Quad stories. I also try and fill in anywhere else I?m needed.
There really is a lot of work to go along with the perks, but right now it?s well worth it. I haven?t even started telling you about all the cool places we get to ride either! Keep tuning in to my blog?I will have to follow up with some inside dirt on our crazy trips in the upcoming days and weeks ahead.
